The European Commission published on 24 September 2020 the communication A capital markets union for people and businesses: new action plan. Out of the 16 actions, several are relevant for occupational pensions. Action 9 directly affects pensions and is the focus of this aba position paper.

The aba argues that pension policy should be driven by the Member States and that within the EU Commission, DG EMPL is well placed to work on pension issues from a social perspective. The aba goes on to comment on the three proposed initiatives – the Pension Dashboard, a study on automatic enrolment and collecting best practices for pension information across all three pillars.
