EIOPA hat am 12. Dezember 2023 den knapp 20-seitigen Entwurf für eine „Opinion on sustainability claims and greenwashing in the insurance and pensions sectors“  mit sieben Fragen zur Konsultation gestellt. Die Frist für die Einreichung von Stellungnahmen ist der 12. März 2024.

Das Ziel der EIOPA-Stellungnahme ist eine einheitliche Herangehensweise der nationalen Aufsichtsbehörden im Umgang mit irreführenden Behauptungen von Versicherungsunternehmen und EbAV zu Nachhaltigkeitsaspekten. EIOPA stellt die folgenden vier Prinzipien auf, die jeweils mit anschaulichen Beispielen (Bad Practice; Good Practice) veranschaulicht werden:

• Principle 1: Sustainability claims made by a provider should be accurate, precise, and consistent with the provider’s overall profile and business model, or the profile of its product(s).
• Principle 2: Sustainability claims should be kept up to date, and any changes should be disclosed in a timely manner and with a clear rationale.
• Principle 3: Sustainability claims should be substantiated with clear reasoning and facts. 
• Principle 4: Sustainability claims and their substantiation should be accessible by the targeted stakeholders.

Auch wenn ein Greenwashing-Verdacht bei deutschen EbAV kaum aufkommen dürfte, wird die aba die Erstellung der PensionsEurope-Stellungnahme unterstützen.
